World Dairy Expo celebrated 50 amazing years in Madison, Wis., this year. This was only my second time traveling from California to attend Expo, but I don’t plan on missing any more in the future.
What made me decide it’s a “must see?”
Here’s a list of my Top 5 Memories of the Golden 50th Celebration. Maybe it will convince you to attend:
Cows: The world’s most beautiful show cows gather during this week to compete in their respective breeds. I could sit and watch the cows parade on the golden shavings all day because I love testing my eye in the large classes to pick the winners.
It was a great week watching Musquie Itaola Martha — the Jersey exhibited by MilkSource Genetics out of northeast Wisconsin — win Supreme Champion. She was quite a cow!
Friends:  There’s nothing that brings more dairy enthusiasts together than the Expo. Even after coming all the way from California, I had the chance to reconnect with friends that I made years ago during summer conventions with the National Holstein Association. I am constantly amazed at how small our industry sometimes feels.

"The Jersey!" Congratulations to MilkSource and their team on exhibiting the Supreme Champion of World Dairy Expo, Musquie Iatola Martha. She strolled across the golden shavings under the spotlight while a full crowd waved their light-up bracelets. The barns also rejoiced for the Reserve Champion, the Holstein! The week has now come to an end and as I sit here in the airport I reflect on the wonderful memories and friendships made while in the presence of some of the most beautiful dairy cows. Thank you to all who made this years show possible. Until next time! #WDE50 #Celebrate50 #CAdairygirl

Wonder where the music comes from in the show ring? Thank Mike Ashworth and his accordion! Mike has been here at World Dairy Expo for 37 years providing our favorite tunes from the top level of the stands. My favorite song of the week: Sweet Caroline! Mike, thank you for letting us sing along. #Celebrate50 #WDE50 #CAdairygirl

When in Wisconsin you eat cheese curds! Couldn't pass up this cheesy goodness from the food booths here at World Dairy Expo. Made even better with some jalapeño ranch dip. It's the perfect snack while watching the Holstein 4-year-olds in the ring! #WDE50 #CAdairygirl

The night before Christmas, that's how some of us describe the night before the International Holstein Show here at World Dairy Expo. Well here we are, day 5 and the final day of Expo! Today judging will conclude with the Black and White Holstein cows followed by Supreme Champion where the judges will pick a breed to win it all. Who's your favorite? So far I'm looking at the Jersey champion, Musquie Iotola Martha, Reserve Supreme Champion from last year. I wonder which Holstein will win this morning to challenge her? #WDE50 #CAdairygirl

For all your World Dairy Expo apparel you must check out The Purple Cow! Located in the Exhibition Hall. (On your way to the ice cream!) This is the place to stock up on all your 50th anniversary gear. Find magnets, stuffed cows and anything black and white. This way you can take your memories from Expo back home. It's also a great opportunity for some early Christmas shopping! Happy shopping! #WDE50 #Celebrate50 #CAdairygirl

How many people does it take to picture a cow? LOTS! Here's a view inside the photo booth at World Dairy Expo where exhibitors can take their cattle to be pictured by Cybil Fisher and her team. The cows require very little preparation because they are normally waking right out of the show ring. They walk onto platforms and in front of the backdrop and the crew hand places each leg for the perfect picture. Who's got the best job on the crew? The guy holding a stuffed cow on a stick! It was the trick of choice to get her ears perked up and smiling for the camera. Not to mention the noise making required for that job. It's not unusual to hear them "baaing" like a goat! Check out Milksource Durham Giggle in front of the paparazzi!  #WDE50 #CAdairygirl

Welcome to Day 4 of Expo! This morning welcomes the Red and White Holstein and Ayrshire cows into the ring. And being Friday, I thought a throwback to last years Red and White show would be appropriate as my favorite cow happened to win Grand Champion female in 2015, Strans-Jen-D Tequila-Red-ET.
I visited her home farm, Stranksy Farm in Minnesota, last year before the World Dairy Expo for a judging practice with the Stranshome family and heard all about her pedigree. Check her out!
And if you think this picture is beautiful I'll be showing you later how much work goes into taking these photos, stay tuned! #WDE50 #CAdairygirl #FlashbackFriday

What am I excited about tomorrow at the World Dairy Expo? Meeting Bonnie Mohr! Bonnie is an amazing artist that is known for her beautiful and accurate cows and farm scenes. Tomorrow is the last day she will be signing her painting "Birth of an Industry" so I don't want to miss it! #WDE50 #CAdairygirl
